Not Punch, but Shadow Puppetry, and on Radio but some may be interested in this
item from BBC Radio4's "A History of the World in 100 Objects" which features a Wayang Kulit figure from the 16th Century:-

It does link with Punch tangentially. Consider the explanation for the grotesqueness of the puppet, and its relationship to the similar grotesque nature of Muslim Turkey's Karuguez, Mr Punch's cousin.
