If true, would be interesting to know what John did with the show. Have never heard of that John being called "Professor" - or of his father being a bioscope operator. Could it be that two stories might have been conflated here?

Well his father was Richard 1 who was certainly doing Punch in Llandudno from the 1860s - so couldn't have previously been a bioscope operator (too early). I think there's a mixing up of Codmans going on in that tale. Perhaps Herbert might have bought some figures?

Herbert bought beautiful figures with glass eyes from France - perhaps as he returned from WW1. Jack was using a Joey from that set up to his death, Jason uses another now. And I'm rather lucky to have one myself - a gift from Jack - I think it was originally a Judy!

Herbert also carved at least two full sets and it's quite easy to differentiate between those and his father's.
