May Fayre 2017 a Sunny Success

Postby Chris » 15 May 2017, 18:38

This year's May Fayre was great! Slightly fewer performers that ssome years, but this made for easier access for the crowds and much easier to move from show to show. The Weather was very kind: Warm and sunny all day and then at the end of the day the rain bucketed down, but not until everyone had packed up and left the churchyard. It was perfectly timed. We had all actually left, the gates closed behind us and the stuff loaded into cars and vans, before it started raining. Those of us who partake of the, fast becoming traditional, Punch Feast at the Strand Palace Hotel did get a trifle wet during our dash from Church to Hotel but we soon dried out in the bar while the waiters arranged a super long table so we could take over part of the dining room.

At the May Fayre we were all delighted at the surprise appearance of Geoff Felix, surprisingly lively and in control after suffering a severe stroke. A four hour release from hospital had been arranged, and Alternative Arts who run the May Fayre arranged for Geoff's transport across London. Geoff held court throughout the afternoon behind one of the booths. It was very brave of him to come, and I hope the constant stream of well-wishers all afternoon assured him of the respect and affection in which he is held by Punch profs and enthusiasts.

It was a great day, and a lovely weekend. Blessed with good weather, great company and some very funny performances.

Daniel Hanton has uploaded a comprehensive gallery of photos of the event which can be seen here:

Looking forward to next year's May Fayre, Sunday 13th May 2018.

Film is out Chris ...just stumbled upon it myself on Youtube.

He has done a really nice job of the editing , and the music keeps the whole thing bowling along with gusto.

Well worth a look !
