I recently bought this witch from eBay.
Can't help wondering if it was originally a Punch.
any thoughts?

Could be couldn't it. But equally it makes a nice, not too scary witch. If not an adapted Punch figure its is obviously carved by a Punch maker.
It's good to squawk!

It was one of a set on five – £75 for the lot. Three of the others have painted teeth in the style of former Supreme makers, possibly Joe Parsonage. The costumes are obviously a later addition. None of the hands are original.

I have a Bryan Clarke witch that I'm pretty sure was originally carved as a Punch. I'll dig it out next time I get to storage.

Better as Punch than it was as a witch, I think.

Suspect it was originally a Punch which had been converted. Pictured here with a Joey which was Snow White but which may have originally been a Judy. He'll eventually be dressed like the Joey behind him – but with practical legs. I used to do a haunted house routine with Jim Crow – a routine I remember Jack Codman doing 40 years ago. Not so happy with Jim these days but still love the routine – so will try it with Joey to see how it goes.
