4 Decades of Television Puppetry - in Wolverhampton!

Postby Chris » 22 Apr 2018, 15:51

Just treated myself to a trip to Wolverhampton Art Gallery to see their terrific exhibition of television puppetry before it closes (the exhibition, not the gallery) next weekend. It's been running for the past three or four months but this is the first opportunity I have had to get to see it. It is not aimed at children, except in the sense that it is aimed at people who were children in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. There's Bagpuss and Button Moon, stuff from the Muppets and Spitting Image, and Zippy from Rainbow and Basil Brush and Rupert Bear, and several of the Gerry Andersen series, and much, much more. The puppets are from various collections but are all gathered together and the exhibiton organised by Michael J Dixon, curator of The National Puppetry Archive and archivist of The Puppet Guild. He's done a splendid job. Well worth a visit.

One word of warning to avoid disappointment: Fozzy Bear who was one of the stars on display has had to return home early, thus viewers going this last week will not see him.
It's good to squawk!
