I have just come across a 35mm slide which I thought would be of interest. This is a picture of Punch Profs gathered in front of the Colwyn Bay Codman booth. The occasion is Britain's first ever International Puppet Festival, which we organised in Colwyn Bay, in 1963. The central profs are Percy Press (senior) and Bert Codman.

Interesting to see the American Stars and Stripes flying there ...

I have (small) flags for St George, Wales, Scottish red Lion on Yellow background and Irish (Eire) flags as well as the Jack (always right way up) and fly whatever seems appropriate at the time of the shows.

Any reason the Stars and Stripes in the image?

Nice picture, Chris, - has a feel of the atmosphere somehow, you can taste the salt! - I note the 'live Toby' - Begs the question, Does anyone still use a live animal? - Or is it another casualty of the times?

Eek, the clue was in the text - Britains first ever International Puppet Festival. There were flags of all the 33 nations participating flying throughout the town.

John, yes I'm sure there are still live dog Tobies to be found - but nary a one to equal Bert's wonder dog.

Interested to see such a simple proscenium which is so effective. Perhaps we can be too ornate sometimes.
