ANOTHER NEW VICE or VISE

Postby lesclarke » 30 Jul 2012, 14:47

To save nipping down to a what can be sometimes a very cold cellar I bought a lightweight vice a few year back, made by Rolson, lots of plastic, it clamped to a flat smooth surface via a suction pad, it works OK for lightweight jobs.

Last week, spotted a small multi-angle clamp on vice by Stanley in Homebase that looked a lot more rugged, couldn't test it as it was so well packaged, but took a risk.

Got it home today and set it up, very impressed by its ruggedness, grip and flexibility. Proper wood carving vices are expensive items, but although not designed for this, I reckon it would just about stand up to the job. I'll have a goo soon.

Maximum jaws opening is 75mm.

Cost £22, and a web search reveals it's cheaper at a fair number of places, £18.50ish, delivered from Amazon. Seems a sound product, Stanley Max Steel Multi angle Hobby Vice

Fist pic is Rolson suction clamp vice.
