Well apparently that's how it used to work when Woolworths advertised nothing more than a shilling. This was the early days of Woolworths (sadly now gone but once the best supplier of puppetry needs) which my Dad used to tell me about. Apparently they had quite expensive items, but which were split into a series of components, none costing more than a shilling. Thus you bought pans with lids separately. This even applied to tools where I believe the hammer head and shaft were separate items. Now that's the way to do it.
