Wooden booth Plans.

Hello Everyone.

I am planning to make a wood panelled booth. I have an idea on how i would like it to look, However I would like some advise into getting it made.

What is the ideal thickness of ply board to construct it?
Is it bolted or screwed together? or any plans ?

Please could you advise me?

Personally I would only recommend a wood panelled booth if you have a permanent site and need to lock it up.
For plans of, and discussion about all types of Punch frames I recommend John Alexander's "The Expanded Frame File" available from http://www.arcadypress.co.uk
Also you might find something in "Staging the Puppet Show" by Jero Magon published by Charlemagne Press, North Vancouver, Canada. It's an old book, but full of goodies. Try and find a copy.
Also look at the postings of Richard Coombs, king of garden sheds and other booths. I'm sure he could give you some tips.

You seem to have a lot of 'plans' on the go at the moment :

"I am planning to remake all my puppets before the end of the year"
"I am planning to make some hardwood slapsticks"
"I am planning to make a wooden panelled booth"

Is any of this stuff happening right now or is it all still 'plans' in your head?

If you are actually getting on with any of it , then some pictures posted on here would be a wonderful thing to see.
Like many others I love seeing folks endeavours in photo form ..always nice to see the many different ways people go about things.

As to what thickness of board to use for a wooden booth ...that very much depends.

Is it a booth to take place to place and put up daily ?
- Like the one Chris posted a photo of - or is it one to put up once for the six weeks of summer on a permanent pitch ?

I know nothing about the first type , never having made one ...but I would guess the lightest wood possible that is still strong enough to do the job.

As such , I would make a frame sections out of thin timbers and clad them in the lightest plywood possible ( 3mm perhaps )

But upload some pics please ...would love to see how these "plans" are developing.

Richard, I think you are mixing up two different people, there is Thompson28 - Mark Thompson - who has just joined and made his first posting about a wooden booth.
There is also another mtompson (without an "h") who was asking about slapsticks. He joined a month ago.

Right , yup my mistake.
It did all seem rather a lot of work for one person to be undertaking all at the same time.

Mind you , I am guilty of that at certain times of the year too.

My own Heights of Abraham wooden booth refit has turned out to be quite a major undertaking , and I am finishing off some puppets that have been partly made for some time as well as planning a new pre show routine that will need building before the end of July.

Still sorry to have mixed up the 'Thompson Twins; ;-0

I have seen Richard Coombs, time speed up booth on youtube. Very Impressive. I also like the mission control, behind the scenes on youtube.

Richard, Is your MASSIVE booth bolted together or power screwed together?
