The good thing about travelling with a Punch & Judy show is that you never know who you're going to meet.
At the Chigwell Police fun day I met Steve Davis who was playing in the tent next to our show.
I've beaten David Wilde at snooker before but this was a real challenge.

Now there's a coincidence!
When I was about your age Martin, I was taken on holiday to Butlin's Holiday Camp at Filey. During the week I was hanging around in the billiards room and a man asked me if I could play. I said yes, a bit. He asked me if I wanted a game, to play with him against two other grown-ups.
At the end of the game he pointed to one of the other men and asked me if I knew who he was. I said no. He said "You go home laddie, and you tell your Daddy that you've just played a game of billiards against Joe Davis."

Joe Davis was the father of modern snooker. He was never beaten in the world championship, winning it 15 times in succession. He was a great billiards player but taught himself to play snooker before most people even knew of the game and brought the game to the attention of the masses.

My Dad told me that he had been booked for the season by Butlins as a coach, and to give exhibition demonstrations.

15x world champion Chris!
I've never played anyone that good.
Did you beat him?

I'm the mum on the left of the top picture.
The PR man who took the picture said "I'll email you a copy"
How many times have we all heard this from people who take pictures of our shows?
Usually they don't - except Chris Gasper of course.
So it was a really nice surprise when it came through

No Martin, my side lost of course.
Even worse, I didn't win the kids talent contest either. I won my heat with my magic act, and then went and lost my voice the day before the finals.
