Lovely Stuff Chris.
Nice to see you are enjoying the project. ..
I will resist any urge to find a joke in the fact you live in Oz and cant find any lambswool :-)

Your son is a very lucky lad indeed.
I guess as long as the urge to perform stays with him , he will always have splendid puppets.

I am glad to say I am back in my Workshop now too. First project is not a Puppet though.
It is the 'Magic growing Christmas Tree' from Neville Wiltshires 'A Helping of Punch' book.

Needless to say , it is being suitably adapted and 'Coombs-i-fied' ..so there is no way my version will be fixable
to the playboard by just a bulldog clip ..he he.

Have fun : can't wait to see pics of the clothed and finished Judy.
The resulting Pair , would make for a nice Christmas snaphot
( Felix-Fashion) aranged around abig plumb Pudding?

All the Best Richard

yes it is odd that there are all these sheep out there in the paddock and here in the city I can't get my hands on any raw wool. I think it gets whisked off to china and returns here as car seat covers.
Here is the puppet with the costume. I am yet to sew on big button for a broach. The costume is made wide and then it appears to be gathered around the waste by the apron strings. I have tried to make pleats but I fear it requires better sewing than I am capable of.
I put a bow at the back of her bonnet as it made her a bit more feminine.
Oddly enough she looks like she's had a few botox injections and a face lift.

Now for the baby.

... and finally

... together at last. You start of doing this sort of thing hoping to end up with a perfect replica and end up settling for something similar.
But these are good puppets. I put them on my hands and they just want to perform themselves.

I'm not sure if anyone else is willing to have a shot at making these puppets but nevertheless here are the drawings for the baby:

Scale 1:1

I put a stick underneath and made the arms so they could flap about so that you could do the walking routine so popular in this day and age.
Generally, on the hand I made the puppets so they were replicas and on the other ensured they could comfortably be performed. So they work on both hands.

And so ends this little story of puppet making.
